Welcome to the Hurst Green Fellowship “Travelthon” web site. You may be asking yourself “what is the big idea?” Well, simply, we are trying to raise much needed funds for two outstanding projects that are making a huge difference to people living in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The aim of the Travelthon is to walk or run continuously during a twenty-four period between 06:00 Saturday 27th March and 06:00 Sunday 28th March 2021. Our hope is that between all those participating we will cover as many miles as we can during this time and through sponsorship raise funds for these great charities.
We are raising money to support two wonderful charities working in Zimbabwe and Zambia. They support communities to access medical care and give practical support for those disadvantaged by poverty.
Our first charity is Faith and Health Promotion Association (FAHPA) in Zimbabwe which supplies food and school fees for orphans. FAHPA also provides support and advice for those living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. The charity works with communities in Zimbabwe on sustainable projects to provide food and help alleviate poverty. FAHPA now also runs an orphanage, (Mavis Home) for sixteen children whose families have been devastated by AIDS.
Our second charity is Sachibondu Mission Hospital in Zambia. The hospital provides vital medical care to many remote villages who, without the hospital would have to travel several days to receive any sort of medical care. The Hospital has now been designated a “Covid 19” centre during the pandemic and is very sadly seeing a rising number of Covid cases.
"How do I get involved" ?
Well, there are two ways you can support these two wonderful charities. Firstly, you can of course make a donation, with all money donated being equally split between the two charities. Secondly, and much more interestingly you can sign up to walk, run or sprint for part of the twenty-four hours.
